Quick Update

Hmmm.... I'm not finding much time for blogging lately. Or taking pictures. I know that's lame for people we don't live near so.... I'll try to do better.
We're doing well and settling in.
Jared's still looking for a job.... but has had some good meetings, etc. God has been faithful to provide and we are very thankful.
In many ways I feel like our new house is home since home is all about family. Something I love to do though it make it cozy like home... if you know what I mean. Still trying to figure that one out with white wall and no moolah :) But it's working out well. Getting the boys their bunk beds in a few days and that will give them more room for sure.
I have a new job! It's part time and from home. Seems like a perfect fit for me so are hopeful it works well. This is something I can do no matter what schedule Jared might have in the future so I'm thankful for that.
We've tried a number of churches and a couple seem to be a good fit. Jared has met with the worship pastors a couple places and enjoyed that. Not getting involved yet since it's summer and there's not much opportunity. That's a bummer for Jared. Side note: Church is very different in the South. Not in a better or worse way - it just is.
We got a couch and chair for the living room. Red which is weird for me, but I like it. Not microfiber which is super weird for me especially since I can't shampoo it (gross). BUT I kinda like the look of it and it was a grand total of $100. It was COVERED in dog hair. I cannot believe I went for it. after the first cleaning I realized I had made a terrible mistake and was prepared to relist it on Craigslist. Then I cleaned it again and it's MUCH better. It's in great shape too - so now we have furniture to sit on :)
I'm trying to implement more regular individual "dates" for the boys. Most recently Brueggers (YUM - AND cheaper than a coffee date!) so that has been fun.
The boys continue to get up around 6. yikes. I try to work in the mornings but I can't handle getting up before that.
Kylie is regularly using sentences now. She's pretty funny. I had a picture out with Bob in it. Bob comes up occasionally but not really. I showed Kylie the picture and asked her who it was and she said "That's Bob!" I thought that was cute.
The kids keep mentioning Joey. They miss him as do we. He's in a situation right now that we could get him back when we are ready. Hopefully in the not too distant future we might be able to make that decision.
The boys talk about Birch Bay all the time. Interesting to see their perspective on things.
Next week we will be visiting my brother and his family in Charlotte, so that will be fun. We'll see a couple other friends too - including some that moved here from Bellingham of all places AND they will have friends visiting from Bellingham that we also know. Small World.
There are many days that feel very discouraging. At the same time, we are often very encouraged when we think about how God has provided for us.
Thanks for all your prayers!

Side Note

I really need to update the pictures at the top of this blog. Can't say when that will happen though.

More on Kylie

Kylie's fears have expanded to swings at the playground (whether people are in them or not - if they are even moving, she freaks out) This makes the playground NOT fun. N.O.T. fun! (by the way, last year she LIVED to swing!)

Also - ceiling fans.

However, she IS making some progress. We are now "aloud" to sit in the black chair. But we have to be still. We cannot rock. She will even sit on our lap while we are on it. If we start rocking she glares at us and says "no rockin!" and if we stop she is fine.

We can almost always use the sweeper now without her getting upset. If she starts too and we explain what we are doing and why she is usually fine with that.

Today she and I were out with my mom and someone started sweeping. Kylie started to get upset but then started talking about (in a whiny voice) how the person was "sweepin" and she didn't freak out.

She has also stopped crying when I give her a bath. Doesn't even freak out when she knows she's about to get one. Most importantly, she does not think I'm actually trying to drown her when I rinse her hair.

Baby steps.

In addition she HATES it when Jared (or anyone) swats flies. So what you here is... "LOUD SMACK (of Jared smacking a fly with the swatter)" Kylie: "NOOOOOOOOOOO" (then screaming and many tears). Today she only half way freaked out and talked about how dad was getting flies. Again, baby steps. I'm still waiting for someone to call CPS though after hearing that. I'm sure it sounds terrible.

Sigh.

At least she's making progress. I'm sure she'll soon get over these fears.

Some pics of the unfinished home for those who wanted to see

Kylie's Irrational Fears

Kylie does not like our black gliding chair. My grandparents bought this for me when the boys were born. I rocked Kylie to sleep in it every night until she decided she was done. But it was for quite a while. The last couple months we were in WA she seemed to be upset when someone would sit in the chair. It wasn't ridiculous but it was weird. Currently she completely freaks out. If someone sits in it she SCREAMS (the really high pitched kind) and stomps her feet and says "no chair! no chair! I go nite nite!" Typically, if you just stay in the chair and distract her with something else for a minute or two she gets mostly over it and "allows" you to continue sitting in it. SO weird.
She has also developed a huge fear of brooms. It includes vaccums and the sweeper but is far worse with the broom. I swept ALL the time, multiple times a day in our other house. We came here and after a meal my mom swept around the table. Normal broom. Normal Sweeping. Small mess to clean up. And Kylie lost it. We thought it was weird and random. However, it has continued. No matter who it is or where we are she SCREAMS if someone starts sweeping as if just the sight of the broom might kill her and runs for "protection" to her nearest trusted person.
Kylie is not a fan of men. I remember it took her some time to warm up to Jared's dad. Not too long and she obviously got completely over it. It definately took some time for her to warm up to my dad. She's still not completely there. She will now appreciate him from a distance and occasionally give him five. Less occasionally she will give him a hug. At the end of my brother's visit she would consider giving him five. Guys we meet/old friends we see she is not a fan of if they are men. Jared took her to nursery the other day and a man was in charge. She cried (which is normal but always very brief) when he dropped her off to a female teacher. The man came over to help (since he was in charge) and it took her quite some time from what I hear to settle down. This past week at nursery she cried when I dropped her off and a male helper picked her up. As I walked down the hall she continued to cry. I snuck back down there so she couldn't see me and told the woman there that she was weird with men and may just calm down if a woman held her instead. Worked like a charm. SO weird.

Family Visits

My brother and his family came up to visit for several days last week. We hadn't seen them in a year so it was lots of fun to hang out. Their daughter (Ellie) is a couple months younger than Kylie so that was fun despite the fact that the two girls really didn't care to have anything to do with each other :)
We shared many meals together, had them over to our house to hang out one evening after the kids were in bed, went to Marbles Kids Museum (which the kids LOVED), and played in the water alot outside! We had a great time and look forward to seeing them down in Charlotte in a few weeks!
Here are a TON of pictures!
